Plans are firming up for the concertina day early celebration Saturday Feb 3. We have the Chimucum grange for all day and I will open it up at 9:00 am for jamming-practice-whatever. From 5 to 7 pm we will have a showcase concert at Finnriver Farm & Cidery. Search maps for “Chimacum Grange”. If you want to participate in showcase contact me. No auditions, just a willingness to play. Depending on number of participants we will allocate more or less time to each. Finn River has many concerts of all types from folk groups to jazz groups to chamber groups. It is located in a semi open converted stable with bench tables, gas radiant heat and decent sound system. Pizza, soup, hard cider are all available. It is in walking distance of Chimacum grange. In the same area there is also a farm store/deli “Chimacum Corner Farmstand”, and an middle American style diner type restaurant “Chimacum Cafe” featuring “Home made pies”. Chimacum is 10 miles from Port Townsend. Close to several state and county parks.
There are some cooking facilities in the grange hall for those who may want to bring something to eat and need to heat it up. Both the dining area and the upstairs main hall will be available for jamming. If there is enough interest, we can have a contra square or couple dance in the evening around 7:30 to 9:30pm with volunteer callers and bands. I can use help cleaning up the hall after the event. There is no admission to the event but donations to defray costs are welcome. Anyone bearing a concertina, accordion or free reed instrument, or friends of these folks, or who declare they have a friend who plays one of these mystical instruments is welcome. All instruments are welcome, but most of all concertinas and their imitators. Maybe we will get some tuba or pipe players to come as well, who knows? There is an old piano shaped object in the hall that can be used for chordal percussion.
If you want to play in the showcase concert, contact me with info about your group and amount of time you would be willing to play. If you want to play with the local chapter of the Puget Sound Concertina Band, send me your contact info and I can get you some of the band music we will be playing. Anyone is welcome to join us on many of our numbers. We can also have practice in the morning on the 3rd. It would be best to call me if you would like to play for a dance, or are a dance caller/master who will volunteer, but of course we will welcome anyone who shows up.
Please share this within the squeezing community.
