Many thanks to Jukebox listener Matt Heumann, who sent the following contribution:
Paul, I just posted this on Youtube. A sweet little Australian waltz collected in Mudgee, New South Wales and sent to me from my Australian friend & fellow concertina player Chris Rowe. This is my arrangement for English concertina, first on a 1921 Amboyna Edeophone, then a 1904 Edeophone baritone and finally on a 1951 Wheatstone Aeola. Matt Heumann Chelsea, Michigan USA:
Никита Чернов (Nikita Chernov?), youthful dexterity playing. Three around Three on a 3D-printed English concertina:
Also, S. Rachmaninoff, Italian Polka, English Concertina solo:
@BruceThomson commented: ‘Thrilling to see 3D printing of concertinas. It opens the door to innumerable new options of shape, acoustics, affordability, creativity from the user base when it is made open source. This can cut the price of excellent sound – from ten thousand dollar instruments to one thousand or even one hundred.”
And now a nautical item. At The Codfish Ball, played by Michael Pierceall. The tune was written by Lew Pollack and published in 1936. Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen danced to this tune in the film “Captain January.” Played here on a restored Wheatstone English concertina, made in 1918:
This clip is from a personal video archive of A. Bajkov, and is of Valentin Osipov, an acknowledged virtuoso:
Julian Harries plays Bach Partita in E major (Gavotte en rondo) on McCann duet concertina (he comments: with apologies to Bach purists, a slightly “folky” arrangement.):
Leveret playing Ellis Knowles’ No. 7 and The Honey Moon. A live track from Leveret’s fourth album, Diversions. Featuring Rob Harbron on English concertina. Recorded live at Stamford Arts Centre, 2nd March 2019:
And now a version of Katyusha on Anglo Concertina, recorded in China. Yuxin Ding explains: [This is] inspired by Kato Toru‘s work but I almost got crazy [playing] the tune in C minor like he did. So I just escaped from Kato’s video and arranged this E minor version, to reach an easier fingering and more even
accompaniments:
French dance tune by Philippe Plard played by Jody Kruskal on a Dipper G/D Anglo concertina:
Boer music, uncredited, eSwatini/Swaziland:
This second piece is by Sive J Dlamini (great music with friends):
From Columbia, Caminito (cueca en Em), by Agustin Chura:
The Begley Family, The Final Set, Hornpipe & Reels, Moscow 2010. “Brianin, Cormac and Brendan Begley finishing off a Moscow gig with a long fascinating set of tunes. The hornpipe is called Her Lovely Hair Was Flowing Down Her Back and was composed by Martin ‘Junior’ Crehan of West Clare. It is followed by two reels from Donegal, that Brendan calls Con McGinley’s, and then by a wild 2-part version of the Morning Dew”:
